Elephant Chained And Abused For 50 Years Cries During Midnight Rescue

In his 50 years of life, Raju the elephant only knew agony and suffering caused by mankind. But all of that would soon be changed by another set of humans.

He lived in India, surviving on rubbish and whatever tourists were kind enough to offer him.

A nocturnal rescue, however, would relieve Raju from his lifetime of suffering after 50 years of abuse and torment.

Wildlife SOS, a North London-based organization, moved in at this time. Raju was in tears after this rescue.

Here he is crying at the time of the rescue.

Pooja Binepal, a spokesman for the organization in the United Kingdom, said they were surprised to witness the elephant crying. “It was a really emotional experience for all of us.” We had a feeling he realized he was being let free.”

They were concerned that Raju’s owner might flee. He even tried to scare Raju away from the rescue by yelling commands.

Wildlife SOS, however, did not give up. “We held firm and refused to back down, and Raju’s eyes welled up with tears as we did so.”
